Dr. John Vandermeer
Dr. John Vandermeer is a native of Highland Park and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1983. He received his undergraduate education in Biomedical Science at Texas A & M University and his veterinary degree from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation in 1990, Dr. Vandermeer returned to Dallas and joined Highland Park Animal Hospital.
Dr. Vandermeer has served on the Texas Veterinary Medical Association Board of Directors, as president of Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association Board and as president of the Dallas Emergency Animal Clinic. He currently serves on the board of directors for the SPCA of Texas and the board of directors for Southwestern Diabetic Foundation.
He and his wife Dr. Wendy Dearixon live in University Park with their three children Emily, Marshall, and Hannah. In his spare time Dr. Vandermeer enjoys playing basketball, fishing and spending time at his country retreat with his family. They have three dogs and one cat: Rosie, Pedro, Lola and Ed.
Dr. Vandermeer's professional interests include orthopedic surgery and endoscopy.
Dr. Polly Dixon
Dr. Dixon has been with Highland Park Animal Hospital since 1998, and while she considers New Mexico and Colorado home, she could not be happier serving the Dallas community. She received her undergraduate education in Microbiology at Colorado State University and her veterinary degree at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated with honors and distinguished herself by receiving the Merk award for outstanding clinical performance as a 4th year student. She is a member of the Phi Zeta National Veterinary Honor Society, the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Dixon has four cats, Rebel Rambo, Bonzerelli, Groucho and Oliver.
Dr. Dixon's areas of special interest include feline and canine internal medicine, clinical pathology and critical care.
Dr. Amanda Henry
Dr. Henry, a native of Houston, Texas, has lived in Dallas and practiced at Highland Park Animal Hospital since 2007. She is a two-time honors graduate of Texas A&M University receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Henry is a member of the AVMA, TVMA and Dallas County VMA and serves on the Dallas Animal Shelter Commission as the veterinary liaison. At home, she has two adorable miniature dachshunds, Abe and Lincoln, and one of our former Hard Luck Hounds, Lebowski. In her free time, Dr. Henry enjoys watching college sports, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Gretchen Wright
Dr. Gretchen Wright grew up in Houston, Texas, but headed to Clemson University in South Carolina for college. After working on the horse and dairy farms there, she decided to become a veterinarian and graduated from Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. After finishing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Dr. Wright went on to practice medicine in College Station, TX and Albuquerque, NM. She joined Highland Park Animal Hospital in November 2013 and is very excited to call Dallas home! Dr. Wright is a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary National Honor Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association. At home, Dr. Wright has a mixed breed dog named Allie and a cat named Dixie.

Dr. Heather Vargo
Dr. Vargo, a native of Dallas, practiced veterinary medicine for 6 years in San Antonio before becoming a part of our team. She graduated with honors in Biomedical Science and in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University. Dr. Vargo is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Feline Practitioners and Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association. At home, she has one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Louie and two cats, Simon and Zeke.
