Highland Park Animal Hospital Recognized as a Texas Veterinary Heritage Practice

Highland Park Animal Hospital was honored by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) as a 2026 Texas Veterinary Heritage Practice, recognizing more than six decades of excellence in veterinary medicine, surgical care, and community service.

Founded in 1964 by Dr. Alton F. “Al” Hopkins Jr., the hospital began as a small animal practice in central Dallas and quickly established a reputation for providing compassionate, high-quality medical and surgical care. Throughout its history, Highland Park Animal Hospital has remained committed to advancing veterinary medicine while mentoring future veterinarians and serving the local community.

Under the leadership of Dr. John Vandermeer and Dr. Amanda Henry, the practice has continued to grow and evolve, expanding its medical, surgical, diagnostic, and boarding services while embracing new technologies and treatment capabilities. In 2016, the hospital celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its state-of-the-art, 13,000-square-foot facility in Dallas.

Beyond patient care, Highland Park Animal Hospital has a longstanding tradition of community involvement, including support for local animal welfare organizations, animal control services, veterinary education, and numerous charitable initiatives throughout the Dallas area.

Today, Highland Park Animal Hospital continues its legacy of exceptional veterinary care, innovation, and service, building on more than 60 years of dedication to pets, their families, and the veterinary profession.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the TVMA and grateful to our clients, patients, team members, and community who have been part of our journey for over 60 years.”
